Rapture Theories or Dreams? Gerry was a great quad-mate and a good friend (see the Biola Egg story for more about this quad) but you could always count on him to turn every conversation to the events and timetables of the last days. Gerry was sure Jesus was coming back any minute. Well, let’s give him his dream! The rest of the quad-mates got up early one morning and wired the quad with speakers up in the ceiling. They all threw back their sheets as if each person had been lifted out of their bed. Water was running in the bathroom and a razor dropped in the sink. The other seven quad-mates were gone…but actually, we just quietly stood outside the quad door with our backs to the wall with Gerry inside sound asleep. Rich turned on the music. It was a song (“Welcome Home Children”) that sounds like Jesus welcoming people into heaven. It was loud. Suddenly, we could hear Gerry up and out of bed, scrambling from room to room, doors slamming, he called all our names, you could feel the panic inside the quad. Finally, the quad door flung open and Gerry ran to the rail (still in just his boxers) with hands lifted high into the sky screaming, “Jesus, wait for me.” Well, you can only hold a laugh so long and the guys lining the wall broke down laughing as Gerry turned to find us all standing there. Whereas he felt maybe he had missed the rapture he, in reality, had only missed the devious schemes of his lovable quad-mates. 30 years later…sorry Gerry. We just couldn’t resist.
